The Bend Metro Parks & Recreation District’s program for this park called for interpretation of river hydrology and the enhanced riparian habitat. The 390-foot-long boardwalk immerses the park visitor in the riparian habitat. The boardwalk (currently under construction) also provides “eddy” points at strategic locations along the walk for interpretive graphic stations and opportunities for visitors to sit and view wildlife.
During the planning process, J.T. Atkins & Company PC determined the location, shape and construction technology for the boardwalk. Challenges include development of the facility within a sensitive environment, providing ADA access, and controlling visitor access to the sensitive environment.
