J.T. Atkins & Company PC provided site planning and design services and participated in public meetings for this proposed complex. The size and scale of the complex balance the need for access, parking, and function with desires to preserve existing trees and a spectacular rock outcrop, while addressing the public's concerns about the visual impact of the facility. The site is also the location of a link in the Deschutes River Trail.
The firm also provided design services for the conference center site. Enhancements to the pedestrian circulation system meet ADA and City of Bend requirements while maintaining a natural setting. The natural emphasis maintains the character of the site, enhancing the experience of Riverhouse visitors and giving Deschutes River Trail users a natural trail link through this commercial development. Landscape plantings and structures use natural materials and planting varieties to complement the existing ponderosa pine plant community. Site lighting provides both safety and lighted pathways.
