South Canyon Trail Bridge

The six-foot wide, 85-foot-long South Canyon Trail Bridge connects existing legs of the Deschutes River Trail lying on opposite sides of the river.

The bridge connects trails between rapidly growing residential areas on both sides of the Deschutes River and new neighborhood parks in southwest Bend. With the bridge, pedestrians can complete a 3-mile trail loop that originates in Farewell Bend Community Park.

J.T. Atkins & Company PC designed the trail alignment signage system, selected the site for the pedestrian bridge, and developed a restoration plan along 1,000 feet of river trail near the new bridge. The plan called for native plant species that blend in with the existing plants and naturalize quickly and protected trees during construction.
